No, just like humans, some dogs my have allergies towards this type of medication. If your dog has allergies, sensitive skin, dry skin, or other skin problems, you should consult with your veterinarian before applying any type of topical flea medication.

Which Dog Flea and Tick Control Is The Best?

When looking to cure your dog of fleas and ticks, it’s important to consider the usage of treatment required. Oral medication (flea pills) will need to be ingested daily until all infestation is gone.

As I mentioned above, we used Frontline Plus for Mindy. However, I have friends and family members that have used the other two brands.

K-9 Advantix II provides your Pug protection from fleas, mosquitos, and lice. Safe to use on puppies and dogs 7 weeks or older.
The Frontline Plus Orange is the version you need to use for a Pug. This is perfect for dogs up to 22 lbs.
This product is fast-acting, and it’s the same topical treatment that we used for our Pug.
Ingredients
This product is veterinary approved and has been a trusted brand for nearly 20 years.
- (S)-methoprene: 8.8%
- Fipronil: 9.8%
This product also comes in the Gold version, which is said to have a triple action formula with 3 secret weapons.
It contains the same ingredients as the Frontline Plus, however, they’ve also added pyriproxyfen, which helps kill the next generation of flea eggs and larvae.

You’ll want to place dosage of either the Frontline Plus or the Frontline Gold on the skin between the shoulder blades.
Allow 24 hours to dry before you give your Pug a bath or take them swimming.

One dosage of both topical applicators will last up to 30 days.

The Bayer K9 Advantix II Flea & Tick medication is a topical treatment to protect your Pug. It works best when applied at the start of flea season which starts as easily as April and lasts until September.
This is one of the most popular flea and tick killing products on the market. In fact, it has gained huge popularity because it has been proven to work.
Most dogs will not have any type of reaction to the product.
Ingredients
This product is veterinary recommended and will keep your dog from biting and itching.
- Pyriproxyfen: 0.44%
- Imidacloprid: 8.80%
- Permethrin: 44.00%
This product is safe to use on dogs, but NOT cats. If you have a cat living with your Pug, you’ll want to keep them away from the dog for at least 72 hours.
Age
This product should only be used for dogs and puppies 7 weeks of age or older.
Instructions for Use
Recommended for use for canines. While your dog is standing, you’ll want to use the entire contents of the K9 Advantix II tube at the top of the back from the shoulder to the base of the tail.
Part the hair and apply to their skin. Once you’ve applied it to their skin, you should throw away the empty tube and do not let your pooch lick it.

This topical medication will be used every 30 days. Avoid retreating more than once every 7 days.
